Team Profile - Bluford Drew Jemison S.T.E.M. Academy

I am an apprentice at Bluford Drew Jemison S.T.E.M Academy and I love the kids. I went to meet the team on Monday and I had a good first day. I met with one of the coaches. Her name is Ms. Shernell Edney. The school is all boys, so there were no prissy attitudes. The team is split into three groups. One group is with Ms. Shauntrice Martin who is one of the coaches, and the other two are with Ms. Edney and Mr. Tyrone McNeil. Part of the team debates at tournaments and the other part only participate in Bludford's debate class. I attend practices on Mondays and Wednesdays. I have some quotes from 4 of my debaters about why they like debate.

Corey Newman- "I like debate because I want to be a lawyer, a judge, and a president."

Kirk Edmonds- "I like debate because it's not just a club, it's a lifestyle."

Mati Baker- "I like debate because it helps students become scholars. People begin to have hope when they see a child debate"

Charles Puckett- "I like debate because I want to become a lawyer when I grow up."

The kids of Bluford are very ambitious and they will succeed in whatever it is that they put their minds to. I was able to get a quote from one of the coaches that I work with.

Ms. Edney- "Coaching middle school students is challenging, fulfilling, and inspiring. When I'm with them, there is nothing I'd rather be doing."

I love the kids of Bluford Drew Jemison and I look forward to continuing to coach them.
