Joint Tournament at Towson Huge
TOWSON UNIVERSITY — For the seventh year in a row, Towson University hosted the largest high school debate tournament in Maryland. Despite bad weather during the week, students came from as far away as Frederick to compete. The tournament has grown each year, and this year was so large that not all rounds could be held on campus, and speech and lincoln douglass debates were held at nearby Loyola Blakefield High school.
In addition to the hundreds of policy debate rounds, the tournament featured "crazy forensics" events that included speed reading, primal screaming, "losers win" debates, and "whose line is it" competitions.
A few other highlights:
Baltimore City college was back in force, taking top school overall.
Medical Arts, new to BUDL this year, came away with substantial hardware, as did Dunbar, a school that has been rebounding this season.
Lauren Greber from Thomas Johnson was top speaker, with an extrodinary perfect "90" (30 of 30 speaker points in all 3 rounds).
Adam Jackson was not only awarded the BUDLman award for his personal comitment to debate in the face of serious personal adversity, but also earned second speaker in the varsity division.
Congrats to all!!
