FREDERICK DOUGLASS — Frederick Douglass hosted the third tournament of the season, and what a success it was! With more than 300 participants, the excitement was running high. This tournament saw a number of teams breaking into the upper ranks, including Freedom Academy (cheers of "Freedom!" could be heard in the halls) who was awarded BUDL man along with a number of team, speaker and school awards, Harbor City, who captured awards at their first tournament this year, and Dunbar, whose team has really grown this year. Debaters have also been working hard to bring new cases to the JV and Varsity divisions, and a number of judges went out of their way to tell coaches how sophisticated the argumentation is becoming. Frederick Douglass also arranged a spoken word/slam poetry contest over lunch which looks to become a tournament tradition. Teams are now gearing up for three big tournaments in December: one in New Jersey, one at Towson University (the largest debate tournament in the state all year), and a novice national qualifier.
