Three BUDL alums take skills to Bulgaria
The Baltimore Urban Debate League sent a travel team made of Denaya Barnes (Coppin Univ.), Jessica Wilke (Coppin Univ.) and Tiffany Oglesby (Towson Univ.) to Bulgaria, where the International Debate Education Association's Youth Forum took place. Teams from all over the world were present and ready to compete against one another. BUDL staff member Chris Baron accompanied the team. "Our team won some good rounds - against Estonia, Lithuania, but missed advancing to the elimination rounds by a single ballot. Denaya Barnes was 11th speaker (in the world!)," Baron said. These BUDL representatives also participated in the capacity track, where they competed to construct debate projects to be implemented in their respective countries. Three finalists were chosen, two of whom were Baltimore's own Denaya Barnes and Jessica Wilke. Wilke won top honors with her project for public debates in Bmore. She will recieve a $400 grant award to implement her project.
